Submission Period

The Equilibrium accepts research submissions on a rolling basis until the Spring quarter of an academic year. This makes it convenient for those who complete their research during the summer or during any quarter to submit their research immediately instead of waiting until the end of the year.

Who Can Submit?

The Equilibrium accepts student research submissions from ALL UC San Diego colleges and in ANY discipline. The journal does not have article processing charges or article submission charges.

Review and Plagiarism Policies

Submission to The Equilibrium undergo Editorial Review. As part of the review process, the editors screen for plagiarism by comparing submissions with articles online and cross-referencing through Google and other search engines.

Removal & Revisal

Once published, a journal article cannot generally be revised or removed. We feel it is important to provide perpetual access to materials published whenever possible and appropriate. However, we will remove publications under special circumstances, including in the case of submission errors, rights violations, or inappropriate content. Please be aware, however, that even after the removal of a work, a citation to the work will remain in our system, along with a URL.
Once manuscripts are published, we are generally unable to revise them. If a significant error or omission is discovered, contact the editors.

Rights & Permissions

The Equilibrium does not require copyright transfer, only permission to publish and archive the article. Copyright holders retain copyright ownership, granting a nonexclusive license to the journal and eScholarship to publish the article, meaning that the author may also publish it elsewhere. Before submitting an article to the journal, please be sure that all necessary permissions have been cleared in any third party material. All articles published in the journal are subject to the journal’s author agreement, which is available in the first step of the submission process or by contacting us to request a copy.

Open Access Statement

As a member of eScholarship, this journal is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author." All articles are licensed under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license.


Types of Submissions Accepted

We accept the following submission types:

  1. Emperical Research Articles: The "stereotypical" research article where the author(s) performs an experiment, a quasi-experiment, a field study, or an observational study. There is typically an hypothesis, a meticulous method, and a systematic way of collecting data.
  2. Original Arguments: These articles are manuscripts that are a synthesis of literature reviews and/or other research-based documents. An original claim is formed and is supported/refuted by the research done by the author(s).
  3. Media (i.e. art, video, etc.): This encompasses any orignal/creative/alternative forms of research. This can be, but is not limited to, paintings, sculptures, videos.

Authorship

The Equilibrium is a registered journal and accepted submissions can be considered published research. Thus, we have a high standard of integrity and strict guidelines for authorship claims. Any research published online via our website or in our print journal is considered a published article.
